Working Out a Pools Perm

Permed coupons trip people up for one simple reason: it is not obvious how fast the lines add up. Go from 10 selections to 12 on a 3 score draw perm and you are not staking two extra lines, you are staking hundreds more. The calculator above exists so you can see that number before you commit any money, not after.

Quick mode matches how most pools coupons are actually described, pick how many score draws your coupon needs, how many selections you are perming across, and any bankers. Switch to advanced mode if you want to tap your exact fixture numbers and see every individual line written out, useful once you are ready to actually fill in the coupon rather than just checking the cost.

For perms over 500 lines the advanced mode stops short of listing every single combination on the page, mostly because nobody is scrolling through eight thousand lines by eye, but the totals and cost are calculated in full regardless of how many lines that turns out to be.

Frequently asked questions

How many lines is a 3 from 10 perm?

A 3 from 10 perm gives you 120 lines. You are selecting 10 matches and covering every possible group of 3 score draws from those 10 selections.

What is a banker in a pools perm?

A banker is a match fixed in every line of your perm. With 1 banker in a 3 from 10 perm, you only need 2 more draws from your remaining 9 selections, which brings the count down from 120 lines to 36, but it does mean your banker has to draw for any of your lines to have a chance.

Why does the line count jump up so quickly?

Because you are covering every possible combination, not just a few extra options. Adding one more selection to perm does not add one more line, it multiplies the possibilities. That is exactly why working it out before you stake matters, the jump from an affordable cost to an expensive one can happen in a single extra pick.

What is the difference between a perm and a straight line?

A straight line means you predict exactly the required number of draws and win only if every one of them is correct. A perm covers multiple combinations of a larger group of selections, so if the right number of draws falls among your picks, one of your lines wins even if you also picked some that did not draw.

Does this tool place my bet or send it anywhere?

No, it only calculates. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere or saved beyond your own session, you will still need to take your numbers and stake to your actual pools coupon or coupon provider to place anything for real.
